“She’s gotten three speeding tickets!” my 7-year-old nephew, Collin, announces in reference to his Aunt Gina (ahem) while en route to the track.

I think I did an Auntie Fail. :\ I couldn’t help it! It wasn’t my fault!  We know I have a penchant for speed, (see Pushing My Prius ) and my family members know I have a penchant for speed, and yet they invite me to my 10 year-old nephew’s birthday party at a K1 Formula Go-Cart SPEEDway and expect me to show some deference and decorum on the track? Pfffttttt. I think NOT! I, ummm, lapped them twice. Eeeeek! Perhaps no more invitations will be forthcoming :}

I Really DO like kids!

I like to think I’m a considerate person, in general.  I do like children – really I do! – especially because I get to do the indulging, not the disciplining 🙂 I like when they are happy and feel victorious and special and all that hokey self-esteem type stuff. But…well….I have restraint issues *biting my lip*.  I mean…I love speed and screeching tires and G-force! I love to push limits (my husband will concur with me here) and I was pushing the limits of these Go-Carts and well, having FUN!

Passing: My blur is faster than his blur! lol

I Brake for No.One.

OK, now this next part is going to sound silly.  But I swear it’s true! I was wearing backless slip-on mule type shoes and I early on found it wasn’t wise to attempt to brake. Teehee..no reeaallly! Let me explain:  The first time I tested the brake pedal, my shoe got stuck and wedged and I even got a big puffy bruise on my ankle. So, alas, there was nothing left for me to do but keep my other foot pinned on the accelerator so as not to let that shoe get wedged, and when would come careening around a corner to meet up with the back end of one of these ambitious, albeit cautious, 10-year-olds, I sometimes gave an inadvertent *bump* heehee…Then I would maneuver around them, snagging the hole shot on the turns (they don’t know driving physics yet)  and make sure to smile and wave sweetly as I zipped past them. Oh my goodness. I just read all that. I sound horrible!!! haha Am I excused just a leetle bit if I gave the boys tips and strategies before we went out on the track? No? Hmmpfff. FINE then.

Do you have a time (that you’ll admit to) when you “failed” in being a gracious adult for the sake of boosting a child’s self esteem? Oh, come on…fess up! I won’t tell… *wink*

If you want more “Crazy Aunt” Antics, see my post: Crazy Aunt Club – I’ve Been Inducted!

P.S. I guess I should mention that all of us had stupid happy grins on our faces and the really cool kid who I bumped gently on the track seemed pleasantly surprised that a grown-up could debase herself in the spirit of fun 🙂 That’s me!

Gina, you're the #Anti-Fail. 🙂 Yes, you're excused. They need to know that we may be a bit older than them, but we can still mooooove when we need to and especially in situations where kids are having fun, self-esteem isn't something to worry so much about. I'm sure you didn't rub their noses in it, do happy dances and shout "In Your Face!" at them (more than once), so all is good.

This post brought big smiles to my face & laughter too. I really enjoy your conversational blogging style, every post draws me in & I must talk back. I re-read the Crazy Aunt Club post and loved it too. Thanks Gina. You rock. 🙂

No, but I have definitely has a sportsmanship fail. It's the kid in us, we have to embrace this.

Thank you, Mimi…I'm embracing 😉 Besides, someone has to be a role model for "unseriousness", yes? 🙂 Cheers! G
