I did it! We hiked to a real life peak – AND I procured the very coveted Squirrel Card from the rangers at the fire look-out tower!

OK, so it’s not a monster, but it’s a fine start I think. Went up the south ridge trail and by golly, only four days later we tackled it from the other ridge…reaching it from a greater distance and deciding to add a few extra miles of meandering to cover a nice round 10.2 mile day! Rachael came with us with her dogs and she, too, obtained a Squirrel Card…certifying our summit and inducting us into the Ancient and Noble Order of Squirrels. I am not kidding. Really! I’ll try to scan it…(those of you who know me are at this point convinced you will never see this elusive document posted on this site…) ; )
The picture is of me standing on the look-out tower with Idyllwild below me and the valleys and mountains stretching out to the west. It was a clear, fine, beautiful day. We got “buzzed” by a golden eagle while on the tower deck – we actually heard the whoosh of the wings…quite something the honor!
Can’t seem to find much sass in me when I write about my hiking…hard to be irreverent in the presence of pure nature. Enjoying myself immensely…especially the rewards of pasta and rich foods as a reward on hiking days. Gretchen and I mull over the foodie possibilities on nearly every outing. Sigh…
